FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The recipient of the inaugural Carter Kosick Memorial Award was named by the BC Snowmobile Federation (BCSF).
The BCSF named Levi Modde the winner of the award during its annual general meeting in March in Kelowna.
A Facebook post on BCSF’s page on April 13th said BCSF president Brian McBrearty had recently met with Modde to present the award.

According to the post, Modde spoke about what the award means and what he’d hope to accomplish with knowledge he will gain from avalanche skills training in the future.
“I’ve seen how quickly things can go wrong in the backcountry, and I know what it feels like to not have the knowledge or confidence to step in,” said Modde in the post. “That’s stayed with me.”
“I want to build the skills to make smarter decisions, support the people I ride with, and be someone who can step up when it matters.”
Modde receives a $500 scholarship towards Avalanche Skills Level 1 Training. The award, announced in November 2025, is open to snowmobile riders at least 16 years of age who are residents of British Columbia and members of a BCSF-affiliated club.

The award was dedicated in honour of the late Carter Kosick, a former Fort St. John resident who shared a passion for snowmobiling and was named the 2021 BCSF youth snowmobiler of the year.
Kosick was tragically killed in a traffic accident in early 2025 in Fort St. John, where he had moved back to from Salmon Arm for an apprenticeship in instrumentation.
The Carter Kosick Memorial Award is a jointly presented award by the BCSF and the Carter Kosick Memorial Society, a non-profit in Carter’s name begun by his family and the Shuswap Community Foundation.
