FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Coastal Rides ride-sharing app is now available in Fort St. John.

The company is based in Sechelt, B.C. and serves the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver Island, and now Fort St. John in the northeast.

In September, the ride-sharing company started recruiting drivers in the Energetic City in order to bring its service to the community.

The app went live in the city on October 28th.

Coastal Rides Founder Ryan Staley told Energeticcity.ca in September that the City of Fort St. John had contacted him to discuss the possibility of launching in the community.

The ride-sharing app is here after the city received several complaints from the public indicating local taxi services are often unavailable or only available after an unacceptably long wait.

Similar to Uber, Coastal Rides sets its fares in advance and can be booked by downloading its app.

Unlike Uber, Coastal Rides does not implement surge pricing, where fares increase drastically during peak times.

The app can be downloaded onto any smartphone to book rides, and drivers can register online or through the app.
