Behind the Scenes
A big story over the last couple of weeks was the closure of Alaska Highway News and the Dawson Creek Mirror. Both of these organizations have been in our region for decades and it’s terrible to see them go. This also means the only printed newspaper left in our region is the Tumbler Ridgeline and the only news sites covering the rest of the Peace are CJDC and ourselves.
Local news and journalism are important. It helps us all stay connected and hold those in power accountable. It also helps support local non-profits and businesses through advertising and more. While the state of journalism is in flux, Energeticcity.ca is here to stay.
If you are hosting a fundraiser, let us know. If you are a local business and need help advertising, we can help you with that. And of course, for all your local news, we got you covered. If you want to aid us, a great way to do so is by becoming a Supporter.

Top Stories of the Week
It’s always interesting to see what the readers of Energeticcity.ca are most interested in the region. Sometimes it’s a big decision that will impact property taxes, and sometimes it’s a new restaurant coming to town. Here are the top stories for the week of October 15 to 21, 2023:
- Sutherland Sentenced to Life in Prison: On Monday, we knew Shane Sutherland was heading to trial but he suddenly plead guilty. Throughout the week, we had a reporter at the courthouse during the sentencing procedure.
- Local Veterinarian Fined: at Gentle Pet Clinic in Fort St. John after failing to cooperate with a complaint investigation conducted by the College of Veterinarians of British Columbia.
- Man’s Car Stolen: after hitting a moose on October 12. He is asking the community if they have any information regarding the stolen vehicle.
