FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Hospital is facing another weekend staff shortage, this time, there’s a gap in operating room coverage, which may impact maternity patients.

Eryn Collins with Northern Health said the interruption has been communicated, through the birthing centre and maternity providers, with patients who may be impacted.

Northern Health has offered support and accommodations in Dawson Creek, ensuring all other area hospitals and workers in patient transfer and transport are notified.

“In any case where a pregnant woman feels they need emergency care, they should call 911 or go to Fort St. John Hospital so that arrangements can be made for transport as safely as possible,” said Collins.

“The birthing centre staff remain available during this time to care for and assess patients.”

Similar interruptions have occurred in Dawson Creek, Chetwynd and Fort St. John since the beginning of 2023.
