New wildfire northeast of Fort St. John
The fire was first reported on July 23, and according to the BC Wildfire Service, was caused by a lightning strike
FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has given an update on a fire northeast of Fort St. John.
According to the wildfire authority, the incident was reported on July 23 in an area two kilometres east of the Kahntah River.
It is currently listed at 77.72 hectares, and the BCWS says it is ‘out of control,’ which means it is expected to expand beyond its current perimeter.

The BCWS says “suppression efforts are underway” to tackle the fire. The cause of the fire is believed to be a lightning strike.
