CHARLIE LAKE, B.C. — A new wildfire sparked off Highway 29 near Bear Flats shortly after 2 p.m. on Thursday.

The wildfire is approximately one hectare and is classified as out-of-control.

BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) and the Charlie Lake Fire Department are responding to the wildfire.

BCWS has two crews and a water tender responding.

The fire is believed to be human-caused, and BCWS says there may have been some non-vegetative fire on site, meaning it may not have started as a wildfire.

Highway 29 is closed between Cache Creek Bridge and Road 287 for 0.9 kilometres, according to DriveBC. An assessment is in progress.
