GROUNDBIRCH, B.C. — The Peace Liard Regional Arts Council has changed its name to Arts North East to better reflect that it encompasses the entire region.

Executive director Haley Bassett says the name change was partly due to the length of the original name and that Liard is no longer what the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality is called.

“When I’m trying to describe what I do, it’s really difficult to trip over those words,” Bassett explained.

“We thought it’d be a good time to update the name and have it be a little more reflective and all-encompassing of northeastern B.C.”

The council also decided to change to a new logo, which features a crocus, the first wildflower that blooms in the spring in the region.

“I thought it was a great symbol for the artists here, creating in this northern environment, bringing beauty to the northern environment,” Bassett said.
