FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Fire Department quickly put out a grass fire on 93rd Avenue in front of the Mackenzie Mall Tuesday afternoon.

Deputy Chief Matt Troiano says no one was injured, and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

With the warm, dry conditions in the Peace region, Troiano notes that these types of fires will become more common throughout the next couple of months.

“Just a reminder to people to be careful when they are burning. If they’re having any campfires, cooking size fires, in their backyard, that they’re taking the proper precautions regarding the fire prevention bylaw that we have in the City of Fort St. John,” said Troiano.

There are currently ten wildfires in the Peace River area, all of which are under control or being held.

Another wildfire north of Halfway River was discovered Monday night around 7:30 p.m. The fire is under control at approximately 4 hectares. The cause is still under investigation.
