DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Two new working advisory groups were recently formed for the Dawson Creek Hospital Replacement project.

According to the latest update on the project, the Community Advisory Working Group (CAWG) and the Indigenous Advisory Working Group (IAWG) were formed to provide design input, ensure the facility reflects the communities it serves, and ensure the new facility is culturally safe, welcoming, respectful, and relevant.

In the first meetings the groups held, discussion topics included draft colour schemes, inspiration for floor themes, and allocating locations for artwork and artifacts throughout the facility.

The last builder attached to the project left in January. According to the update, proponents will submit their financial statements for evaluation in the coming months.

After the evaluation, a new proponent will be selected, the Design Build agreement will be signed, and construction will begin shortly after.

In March, the Peace River Regional Hospital District announced they would be instating a “proactive” tax adjustment to support the project.

The hospital replacement will be approximately 25 per cent bigger than the current one, with 70 beds and increased mental health services.
