Five-day heatwave expected to begin Friday

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for northeast B.C., expecting a five-day heatwave to begin Friday.

Daytime highs are expected to hit between 29 to 36 degrees celsius combined with overnight lows of 14 to 16 degrees celsius. Record-breaking temperatures are expected.

Meteorologists say the duration is concerning as there is little relief at night with elevated overnight temperatures.

“This record-breaking heat event will increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, raise river levels due to glacier melt and increase the risk of wildfires due to drought conditions, ” says Environment Canada.

British Columbians are advised to drink lots of water, find a cool location, and not leave people or pets inside parked cars.
