FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – A Fort St. John 4-H club is one of 203 clubs across Canada to receive funding from Farm Credit Canada (FCC).
Nikki Mailman, A-Leader for the Silver Willow 4-H club, found out about the funding opportunity through an FCC email.
The $500 in funding will go towards a livestock blower for grooming that could be shared among members to use and practice with.
Mailman said that the club has grown to 27 members this year, and many of those members are doing beef projects.
With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the club had a hard time fundraising. The club is currently doing a locally roasted coffee fundraiser with Hell’s Half Acre Coffee Company, something that is new to the club but, according to Mailman, seems to be doing very well.
Anyone interested in purchasing coffee can contact Nikki Mailman at 250-261-0422. The fundraiser will be happening until February 15th, and then the coffee will be freshly roasted and delivered the next week.
The FCC support 4-H clubs by awarding up to $500 per club to develop existing programs, covering costs associated with local events and exchanges, supporting volunteers, or purchasing materials.
