FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – School District 60 Board of Trustees have voted in favour of allowing community groups to use the gymnasium at Margaret Ma Murray Elementary School.
In October, the Northern B.C. Volleyball Club had written a letter to Trustees requesting reconsideration for the use of school gymnasiums, after being closed to the public since March, due to COVID-19 pandemic.
During a Board meeting on Monday, Trustees made the decision to allow the use of the gym as part of a pilot that would see groups having access on Friday nights and weekends.
The pilot is to see how well COVID-19 safety and sanitation protocols are followed before expanding the public-use of gyms to other schools.
School staff will be on-site to sanitize and supervise.
Applications will be reviewed by Ma Murray administration, with the pilot expected to begin in December.
