Justice Society, Legion receive funding from Province

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Through funding from the Provincial government, the local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and the North Peace Justice Society have received $20,000 and $5,000, respectively.

After the North Peace Justice Society was denied a gaming grant earlier this year due to an application that reportedly had errors. Dan Davies, the chair of the Society, said he went to local MLA Pat Pimm to asked if he could help.

Pimm told Davies to write a detailed proposal, and that he could take it with him to the B.C. Legislature in Victoria. In the end, the Society ended up with $5,000 more in funding.

During a meeting with the Royal Canadian Legion, the issue of their leaking roof was brought up — which capital funds are needed for. Thus, another letter was written, appealing for funding — which resulted in another grant of $20,000 for the Legion.

Davies, very involved with the Legion as a past Vice-President, said the estimated cost to repair the ceiling is $80,000, altogether.

“At the end of the day, we got accepted on both of them,” he said.
