Fire department takes care of burning dumpster
FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Fire Department quickly extinguished a dumpster on fire last night, just before 9 p.m.
Crews got to the scene to find the blaze around the 9200 block of 94A street, behind an apartment building. Deputy Fire Chief Darrell Blades said the disposal company who owns the dumpster has been contacted, and no injuries came of the incident.
He adds that this is the first fire of this nature since he joined the team in August, and the second in 2015.
While they are rare and rather unusual for the department to take care of, he says they are not necessarily insidious in nature; they can happen simply when someone throws something with an ember on it that hasn’t completely quit, such as a cigarette.
He does note, however, there would be concerns of arson if a string of similar fires occurred within a small time span.
This incident is still under investigation to determine the cause of the flames.
