Two Fort St. John Residents arrested in Ashcroft

Two Fort St. John Residents are in custody after a traffic stop near Ashcroft.

On Canada Day the Ashcroft RCMP stopped a vehicle during a road check on Highway 1. The driver was unable to produce a valid drivers license and the vehicle was signalled as a vehicle impound candidate by ICBC.

While one RCMP officer was running a further check on the driver, another ordered the two occupants out of the vehicle and down on the ground after witnessing a hand gun being flung out of the car and into the ditch.

The RCMP then searched the vehicle and found four pounds of marijuana and a hand gun with ammunition.

A 18 year old woman and a 22 year old male from Fort St. John were arrested and are being held in custody. Charges of possession of a restricted weapon and possesion for the purpose of trafficking are pending.
