Accused admits stabbing man in Prince George motel
A Dawson Creek man charged with second-degree murder in a 2022 killing pleaded guilty May 14 in BC Supreme Court to the lesser included offence of manslaughter.
PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — A Dawson Creek man charged with second-degree murder in a 2022 killing pleaded guilty May 14 in BC Supreme Court to the lesser included offence of manslaughter.
Braidan Josie Meck admitted to the offence before Justice Carla Forth in Prince George.
Meck, 32, was charged in the fatal stabbing of 28-year-old Devon Myles Lindstrom on June 11, 2022, at a motel on Queensway.
Forth adjourned the case to Sept. 18 and ordered several pre-sentence reports, including psychiatric and psychological assessments and a Gladue report, which examines how Meck’s Indigenous background may have contributed to the offence.
Meck had been scheduled to stand trial for 10 days beginning last August, but dismissed his two lawyers before the BC Day long weekend.
Manslaughter is classified as culpable homicide without intent to kill. The maximum sentence for manslaughter is life imprisonment.
