MOTT starts drainage work at Old Fort landslide
The Ministry of Transportation and Transit has begun drainage work at the Old Fort landslide site to “expedite the dewatering of the slide mass” ahead of construction.
FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Drainage work has begun at the site of the Old Fort landslide after more than two weeks of movement.Â
In a May 7th update posted to its Facebook page, the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) stated the Ministry of Transportation and Transit (MOTT) has begun drainage work to “expedite the dewatering of the slide mass” on Old Fort Road.
“There has been no notable movement today though water continues to accumulate on the slide mass above the road alignment,” the PRRD wrote.Â
Both the evacuation order issued on April 20th and the alert enacted on April 23rd remain in effect, and the Old Fort road continues to remain closed.Â
In an interview on This Week in the Peace on April 24th, the MOTT stated the landslide had moved more than 400 metres since April 19th.
