Mitchell said the city has been without a fastball league for the last 10 years since the last league shutdown.
According to Mitchell, fastball has always been a big part of Fort St. John.
“Many of us grew up playing fastball in town here,” said Mitchell. “We did have a fairly prolific league for a while.”
Mitchell also said the decision to bring the sport back to the city was largely to provide more opportunities for youth.

“The minor baseball league has a significant waitlist every year that hundreds of kids don’t get the opportunity to play a summer sport,” said Mitchell. “We thought we’d bring another option with fastball, where we utilize a different set of diamonds and that we can provide that as an option for youth in this town.”
The exact start date for the league has not yet been determined, as the league awaits approval from the city on when the diamonds will be ready, but Mitchell said they hope it will start the week of May 11th and run until the end of June.
According to Mitchell, the league currently has 40 registered participants but hopes to reach at least 80.
