FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fort St. John is set to welcome the region’s best with a bow and arrow for a 3-D archery tournament at Fort St. John Curling Club.

Set for Saturday, April 18th and Sunday, April 19th, New Totem Archery club’s 3-D tournament will showcase different obstacles for archery enthusiasts over the two-day event.

The club’s president, Tim Giesbrecht, says the club’s history goes back to at least the 1970s and it has a wide range of members ranging from the general public to veteran hunters and target archers.

This includes Andy Fochuk, who recently finished on the podium at the 2026 Vegas Shoot in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“We have everything from beginners all the way to people competing and winning on the international stage,” said Giesbrecht.

“My son started shooting when he was four years old. We have had people with disabilities. It is an inclusive sport.”

Next weekend’s tournament will be for regional supremacy. Each event will be scored by Archery Shooters Association (ASA) rules, with targets on each 3-D animal representing a range between five and 12 points.

Events will include spot shoots, where the object is for a shooter to call out their intended shot from anywhere between 35 and 45 yards away, as well as shoot downs to determine close contests.

The 3-D, fake animal targets will include buffalo, caribou, fox, moose, rabbits and even dinosaurs.

“We will have two shooting lines based on the number of participants,” said Giesbrecht. “[Participants] will have 10 stations [with] two targets per station.

“We always get people from throughout the region.  From Chetwynd, Dawson [Creek] and even Grande Prairie. We have had new members. We have had participants that have never shot at a 3-D archery tournament. This is a good one to start with.”

There will also be door prizes for participants. Registration for the competition will take place at the Fort St. John Curling Club on 9504 96th Street at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 18th.

New Totem Archery club’s 3-D archery tournament will take place on Saturday, April 18th and Sunday, April 19th, with the shooting beginning at 9 a.m.

Registration is $40 for adults, $20 for youth aged nine to 18. Participants eight and under are free.
