Dance fundraiser to be held in honour of Dawson Creek firefighter captain injured on Highway 97

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The family of a firefighter injured on the job last year will host a fundraiser for the Dawson Creek Firefighters Charitable Society.

The Boots and Beer dance fundraiser is being held by the family of Dawson Creek Fire Rescue Captain Brooks Gower.

Gower was critically injured after being struck by a passing vehicle on Highway 97 while attending a second, unrelated incident near Groundbirch last fall.

His road to recovery has seen a groundswell of community support, with fundraisers – including one resident having a bake sale – organized to help Gower and his family while he recovered.

His wife, Tryna Gower, has been posting regular updates about her husband while he recuperates on social media.

A Facebook post promoting the event says the dance is “a celebration,” with a portion of proceeds going toward the charitable society for an unnamed new hospital project.

A ticket for $100 gets tickets for dinner, dancing, a midnight meal – known as a ‘midnight lunch’ – and a live band performance by the Montney Coulees band.

Additionally, there will be a 50/50 draw and door prizes at  the event. Designated driving service will be provided for those travelling from Dawson Creek courtesy of the Step Up ‘n’ Ride society.

The Boots and Beer fundraiser happens on Saturday, June 6th at the Cutbank Community  Hall at 13514 BC-52 in nearby Arras.
