FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — An inaugural Moose FM radiothon raised $15,000 for Skye’s Place, a local stage two housing program run by the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society.

The radiothon, which is sponsored by the Fort St.John Co-op, took place at Festival Plaza on March 6th.

It raised $15,000 for the program, which offers a safe and affordable place for women and children escaping abusive relationships to heal and rebuild their lives.

In addition to affordable and safe housing, those who attend Skye’s Place receive essential support services and programming, such as weekly access to counselling sessions, dedicated health teams and more.

At the time of this year’s radiothon, Skye’s Place was celebrating 45 years of service to the community of Fort St. John.

Moose FM’s program director, Chris Walker discussed what stood out to him about the local fundraiser.

“The radiothon was an absolute blast, and the community response was fantastic. We raised just over $15,000, and every dollar makes a real difference for the women and children supported by Skye’s Place. Days like this remind us why local radio matters: it brings people together to help their neighbours.”

While being supported by the Moose FM radiothon, Skye’s Place is also sponsored by a variety of local partners including BC Hydro, BC Housing, the City of Fort St. John, Food Banks BC and more.

While this year’s radiothon may be over, it doesn’t mean it’s too late to donate to Skye’s Place. The Fort St. John’s Women’s Resource Society accepts donations year-round on the society’s website.

Moose FM and Energeticcity.ca are owned by the same parent company, Moose Media.
