Man who admitted manslaughter in Fort St. John seeks new counsel ahead of sentencing
Katlin Cota, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter after a person died in Fort St. John in June 2025, is looking for new counsel ahead of his sentencing.
FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A man who committed manslaughter in Fort St. John is looking for new counsel before he is sentenced.
According to the BC Prosecution Service, Katlin Darcy Cota was given leave of the court to withdraw from the record, which means a judge has granted permission for an attorney to stop representing a client in an active legal matter.
Cota, born in 1988, was arrested alongside two other people after the death of one person in the parking lot of the Fort St. John Alliance Church on June 24th, 2025.

Cota entered a guilty plea on December 1st, 2025, for a single count of manslaughter.
He was previously set to appear in court on February 20th for a sentence hearing and pre-sentence report with a psychiatric component but this has been delayed while he finds new counsel.
The charges for the two other people arrested are not proven and their cases are still proceeding through the court.
The BC Prosecution Service said the matter was adjourned to March 9th for Cota to retain new counsel.
