PAC raises more than $300K in around one day for families of Tumbler Ridge shooting victims

TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. — A page launched yesterday to raise funds for the families affected by the Tumbler Ridge shooting has already received more than $300,000 in donations. 

The Tumbler Ridge Parent Advisory Council (PAC) launched the GoFundMe page on February 11th in collaboration with the mayor of Tumbler Ridge, Darryl Krakowka, and the District of Tumbler Ridge council.

As of February 12th at 1:45 p.m., $305,559 has been raised. 

This comes after eight people were killed by a shooter, who also died, in Tumbler Ridge on the afternoon of February 10th. 

On February 11th, BC RCMP deputy commissioner Dwayne McDonald named 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar, a resident of Tumbler Ridge, as the shooter in a press conference. 

Victims from this shooting include a 39-year-old female teacher, three 12-year-old girls and two boys between the ages of 12 and 13. 

Two additional victims, a 39-year-old woman and an 11-year-old boy, were found dead in a local residence nearby – they are believed to be related to Rootselar and her first victims.

PAC earlier said the GoFundMe will help raise funds for families who have been directly affected by this event. 

These funds will be used to provide assistance such as covering unexpected expenses, supporting daily needs and helping with ongoing recovery efforts. 

The GoFundMe total does not include donations made directly at Lake View Credit Union, which is also collecting for the cause at its branches or via e-transfer to trstrong@lvcu.ca.
