FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — There was something deeper about the energy at the North Peace Arena on Friday evening as the Fort St. John Huskies opened the playoffs.

Moose Media Night – featuring games, giveaways and DJ Moose – were all a part of the evening on Friday, February 6th as the Pups took on the Fairview Flyers in game one of their Strike Group North West Junior Hockey League (NWJHL) series.

Moose staff were in attendance while fans came through the turnstiles at North Peace Arena.

“It’s fantastic that we can do a night like tonight,” Huskies’ president Michael Bacso told Energeticcity. “Especially in game one of the NWJHL playoffs.”

For some fans, it was just another playoff game at the North Peace Arena. Craig Boyd, for instance, has been attending games since the Huskies were known as the Golden Hawks.

Now 65, he comes to games regularly with his family, including his children and grandchildren.

“We try to [come] as much as we can,” said Boyd. “On a school night, the kids don’t come. It is just nice to see everybody out here, and we get more and more support all the time. That’s [is] what the boys need right now, especially in the playoffs.”

As this was a fun-filled family event, games took place during the first and second intermissions. Each participant in the games received a weekend pass to the 2026 Energetic County Fair as a prize.

After the first period, contestants were brought onto centre ice for a variation of the table-top children’s game, Hungry Hungry Hippos.

Teams of two used a Krazy Karpet winter toy to slide toward a pile of pucks, with the winner receiving a gift certificate worth $2,000 of gas, courtesy of the United Farmers of Alberta (UFA) co-operative.

It was won by Megan King and her partner. King told Energeticcity.ca their strategy was simple: push and pull as many times as possible to try to get as many pucks.

King said the game – which the Huskies prevailed by a score of 5-4 – was the first she had ever attended live.

“It’s a good time so far,” said King. “We will definitely come back.”

Meanwhile, a blindfolded Cameron Eggie took part in the game Where’s DJ? in which the crowd directed him toward Moose Media mascot DJ Moose.

Although he had two minutes, Eggie found DJ within 45 seconds. He won passes to the 2026 Big Valley Jamboree in Camrose, Alberta.

Eggie says he attends Huskies’ games with his family regularly.

“The Huskies are good hockey for Fort St. John,” said Eggie. “It’s a great opportunity to get out with the family. I’d encourage everyone to do it.”

Moose Media put together an evening enjoyed by all, according to Moose FM program director Chris Walker.

“The Huskies and Moose have been walking separate paths, but in the same direction for a very long time,” said Walker. “To be able to take these two long-standing organizations, and be able to make something out of it, is absolutely fantastic.

“We couldn’t be happier. Thousands of dollars of giveaways, hundreds of people in the stands. We are just so happy to be a massive part of the community and be welcomed into the Huskies family.”

After being postponed on an earlier date due to weather, Moose Media Night took place on Friday, February 6th.
