Forty-two of last year’s transplant recipients were residents of the Northern Health region, the highest number recorded for the health authority between 2017 and 2025. The region also accounted for five deceased organ donors in 2025.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to deceased donors and their families, who chose compassion in moments of profound loss,” said Josie Osborne, B.C. health minister.
“We also recognize the extraordinary commitment of living donors, whose courage and altruism are exceptional. Every donor leaves a lasting legacy of hope.”
BC Transplant also marked a significant milestone in 2025, surpassing 8,000 kidney transplants performed in the province since its first procedure in 1968.
