Dawson Creek opens warming centre to help community beat cold weather

The City of Dawson Creek has opened an emergency warming centre until December 17th to help residents during the cold weather.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C.— The City of Dawson Creek has opened a warming centre to help the community stay warm in the upcoming cold days. 

The centre has been opened on 1401st and 102nd Avenue. 

In an notice published on its website, the city said its warming centre opened using funds from the Nawican Friendship Centre and the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR).

Environment Canada forecasts predict lows of -15 C on December 6th, with temperatures dropping to -23 C on Wednesday.

The warming centre will be open 24/7 from today, December 5th, until December 17th. 

The space is designed by people in need of support during this cold stretch. Additionally, the centre will also offer refreshments on-site.
