Court Report: September 8th to 12th

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Below are the latest sentences handed down from the Fort St. John and Dawson Creek Provincial Courts from September 8th to 12th.

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, September 8th

Cody David Baskott (born 1987):

Baskott was found guilty of flight from police and two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon for an incident in Fort St. John on January 3rd, 2025. 

Baskott was issued an 18-month conditional sentence, which is a sentence to be served outside of jail under strict conditions, sometimes called ‘house arrest.’

Baskott was also issued three 12-month probation orders.

Dawson Creek Provincial Court sentencing, September 9th

Ryan Ainey (born 1988):

Ainey was found guilty of storing a firearm contrary to regulation and loading and/or unloading with ammo a restricted and/or prohibited firearm for an incident in Tumbler Ridge on April 23rd, 2025.

Ainey was issued two conditional sentences — one for 180 days, the other for 540 days. Ainey also received an 18-month probation order, a 10-year firearm prohibition and $200 in victim surcharges.

Jason Dumont (born 1980):

Dumont was found guilty of uttering threats to burn, destroy or damage and mischief for an incident in Dawson Creek on December 6th, 2024. 

Dumont was issued a conditional discharge, two 12-month probation orders and $100 in victim surcharges. A conditional discharge means the record won’t show a conviction if Dumont meets the conditions the judge sets.

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, September 11th

Henry Harold Burgoyne (born 1965):

Burgoyne was found guilty of the following offences for incidents that took place between February and August 2025:

• Driving while prohibited and/or with a suspended licence
• Breaching an undertaking
• Assault
• Breaching a release order (two counts)

Burgoyne was sentenced to 12 total days in jail in addition to time served, and also received a $75 victim surcharge. For the assault charge specifically, Burgoyne received a suspended sentence, where the accused is given conditions to follow, and an 18-month probation order.
