FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Northern Lights Choral Society (NLCS) is all set to host its spring concert in Fort St. John.

The “From Earth to Sky” spring concert has been scheduled for Sunday, May 31st, from 6 p.m. at the North Peace Cultural Centre located on 100th Avenue.

NLCS’s board chair, Rheanna Morris-Richert, said the society puts on two main concerts during the year.

“Our directors chose a lot of music that had to do with water, rivers, rain and everything that comes along with spring, blooming of trees and flowers,” she explained. “So the concert’s themed around…all the things that are changing and coming with the spring.”

Morris-Richert said the society has reached out to local musicians and people in our choirs to play with the society.

In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to participate with the choir on one of the pieces.

“One of the things that is new for us is we’re going to have a harpist. So for one of our pieces, we’re going to have a harp on stage,” she noted, adding attendees will be able to see “great local musicians.”

Morris-Richert said one of the society’s goals is to bring music to the community.

“[The concert will] allow our students [who] really love art and adults [can] come out…and just enjoy some beautiful music,” she said.

The concert, Morris-Richert said, is a “great way” to support the local arts and music in Fort St. John.

She believes many people in the community love to sing and are looking for an outlet.

“Our society is a great place to do that,” she added.

Morris-Richert asked the community to come out and support the youth and kids who have been working since September on various pieces of music.

Tickets for the concert, which cost $20, are available in person at the North Peace Cultural Centre box office.
