DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The Dawson Creek and District Hospital’s emergency department has been closed and diverted for the first time this month.

According to a Facebook post from Northern Health, the department closed at 5 a.m. on Monday, September 15th, and will remain closed until 3 p.m. today due to “staffing challenges.”

While the closure remains in effect, anyone in need of life-threatening urgent care is urged to call 911 for transportation to the nearest available emergency department.

People with less urgent care needs, meanwhile, can contact their primary care provider or book an appointment with Northern Health’s virtual care clinic by calling (844) 645 7811.

This is the third closure of any Northern Health facility so far in September, following a pair of diversions at Chetwynd General Hospital’s emergency department earlier in the month.

The first of those diversions lasted for just an hour, while the second lasted for 12 hours.
