Fort St. John breaks 90-year-old temperature day record
For the third day in a row, temperature day records have been broken in the Peace region this week, with August 28th, 2025 being the hottest August 28th recorded in Fort St. John since at least 1935.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — For the third day in a row, temperature day records were broken in the Peace region this week.
According to Environment Canada’s weather summaries page, Thursday, August 28th, 2025 set a new day record for heat in Fort St. John.
That means the maximum temperature that day — 31.1 C — was the highest temperature ever for any given August 28th since the agency began tracking daily temperature records for the city.

The new value is 0.7 degrees higher than the previous day record of 30.6 C, set in 1935.
This comes 24 hours after Chetwynd broke its day record for August 27th and 48 hours after Fort St. John, Chetwynd, Dawson Creek and Fort Nelson all broke their day records for August 26th.
Environment Canada’s current forecast for Fort St. John indicates daytime temperatures will decline slightly over the Labour Day long weekend before rising back to the high 20s and low 30s early in the week.
