New temperature day record set in Chetwynd as heatwave continues
Another temperature day record has been broken in northeast B.C., with Chetwynd recording the hottest August 27th since 1979.

CHETWYND, B.C. — Another temperature day record has been broken in northeast B.C.
Environment Canada’s weather summaries page says Wednesday, August 27th, 2025 saw a new day record set in the Chetwynd region.
That means the maximum temperature in the area on Wednesday was the highest of any given August 27th since Environment Canada began tracking daily temperature values for that region.

Other communities that saw new temperature day records broken on the 27th include Puntzi Mountain, Kitimat and Kamloops.
In Chetwynd’s case, the maximum temperature of 33 C yesterday broke the previous August 27th record, set in 1979, by three full degrees — the third largest gap across all communities in B.C. that set new records.
Additionally, the maximum temperature in the Fort Nelson area — 32.5 C — on August 27th matched that region’s temperature day record set in 2023.
This news comes 24 hours after both communities — as well as Fort St. John and Dawson Creek — broke their day records for any given August 26th.

Environment Canada’s current forecast for Chewtynd shows daily highs in the 30s before showers overnight on Saturday, August 30th, leading to lower temperatures in the following days.
The forecast is similar in Fort Nelson, but sub-30 temperatures are expected to come slightly earlier, with a high of 27 C on Saturday.
