Design contract awarded for proposed phase two of LNG Canada project in Kitimat
Fluor and JGC corporations have been picked to update the ‘front-end engineering and design’ (FEED) plans for a possible second phase of the LNG Canada in Kitimat.

KITIMAT, B.C. — A joint engineering venture has been awarded the contract to update design plans for a possible second phase of the LNG Canada facility in Kitimat.
In a press release issued on August 1st, it was revealed Fluor and JGC corporations have been picked to update the ‘front-end engineering and design’ (FEED) plans for the facility.
This comes as LNG Canada exported its first batch of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in July as part of phase one of its production.
Phase two would boost the facility’s capacity to process, store and ship LNG, but a final investment decision on the expansion hasn’t yet been made.
“We’ve been a proud partner of LNG Canada through phase one and we look forward to contributing to the next chapter,” said Mike Alexander, Fluor’s president of energy solutions.
The Kitimat plant currently produces up to 14 million tonnes of LNG annually and aims to supply lower-carbon natural gas to global markets.
It is a joint venture with Shell, Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi and KOGAS.
