Dawson Creek playground equipment to be dismantled due to ‘risks to users’
The City of Dawson Creek is removing playground structures in seven parks for no longer meeting Canadian Safety Association requirements.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Several pieces of playground equipment in Dawson Creek are being removed this summer because they could “pose risks to users.”Â
According to a July 14th press release, the City of Dawson Creek will be removing equipment in seven parks after they have been assessed as “no longer meet[ing] current safety requirements” put in place by the Canadian Safety Association.Â
99th Avenue, Crescent, Fred Flavelle Memorial Lions, Grandview, Hillcrest, Tremblay and Kin parks will all see playground equipment including slides, climbers, seesaws, swings and wooden playground structures removed starting mid-July.Â
“This work is part of a broader effort to maintain safe and accessible recreational spaces for all residents,” the city said.Â
Elsewhere in the city, the Harry Morrow Ball Diamonds in the South Peace Community Multiplex sports fields will be receiving a new play structure to replace the existing one, and another will be installed at 16th Street and 104th/105th Avenue.Â
The city stated concept designs and future replacement and upgrade plans will be shared with residents “as they become available.”
