$25,000 in community funding distributed by credit union

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A South Peace-based financial services company has shared thousands of dollars in funding with an array of community organizations in the region.

Lake View Credit Union, a banking company founded in Dawson Creek, has announced the recipients of its annual ‘Community Social Responsibility Fund Program’ for 2025.

The grant program provides money each year to “support a broad array of community needs, including, health, education, culture and recreation.”

According to a press release from the company, this year, $25,000 was divided between nine different organizations.

The largest allocation — $5,500 — was sent to Chetwynd Search and Rescue for the purchase of new helmets and first aid vests.

Meanwhile, the smallest allocations saw $1,000 each provided to the Dawson Creek Literacy Society for furniture and bathroom upgrades and to the Don Titus Parent Group for student archery program materials.

Other groups that received funding include the following:

• $4,000 to Tumbler Ridge Secondary School for upgrades to its ‘gaga pit,’ a fenced-off area for playing a dodgeball-like sport
• $3,500 to Royal Canadian Legion chapter 258 for repairs to its legion hall
• $3,000 to the Dawson Creek Hospital Auxiliary for the purchase of a ‘tovertafel,’ a specialized computer for treating dementia patients
• $2,400 to the South Peace Arts Society for youth art program materials
• $2,400 to the Rolla Ratepayers Association for its hall restoration campaign
• $2,200 to the Pine Valley Seniors Association to purchase an automated external defibrillator for its seniors hall

“We’re incredibly proud of the work our committee does in supporting these amazing organizations,” company co-CEO Justin LaJeunesse said in the press release.

“The variety of initiatives and causes we see really drives home just how diverse our region is. It also highlights the value of collaboration and what can be accomplished when we work together.”

Members of the committee responsible for overseeing distribution of the Community Social Responsibility Fund Program have thanked everyone who applied this year, and encouraged unsuccessful applicants to apply again for the next funding allocation when applications open in the spring of 2026.
