Sheriff graduate set to start work in Fort St. John

Gurnoor Dhillon will start work as deputy sheriff at the Fort St. John Provincial Court on July 9th after graduating from the Justice Institute of British Columbia.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A recent graduate with the B.C. Sheriff Service (BCSS) will start working at the Fort St. John courthouse next month. 

Gurnoor Dhillon will start work as deputy sheriff at the Fort St. John Provincial Court on July 9th, 2025. 

“I’m excited to join BCSS and look forward to a rewarding journey where I can commit myself fully to public safety, serve the community with integrity and grow both personally and professionally,” said Dhillon.

Dhillon is one of 33 sheriffs graduating from the Justice Institute of British Columbia’s spring class.

Niki Sharma, Attorney General of B.C., welcomed the graduates at their graduation ceremony on Monday, June 9th.

“Sheriffs play a critical role in our justice system, ensuring access to justice is preserved and keeping the people who use our courts safe and protected,” said Sharma.

Dhillon was born in Chandigarh, India and moved to Canada to pursue greater educational and professional opportunities.

The new sheriff holds an associate degree in psychology and worked as a security guard at Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby and at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver.

“These roles have equipped me with hands-on experience in public safety, emergency response and conflict resolution in high-traffic and sensitive environments,” said Dhillon.

Outside of work, Dhillon is passionate about staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle by playing cricket, soccer and hiking on local trails. 

“These hobbies keep me disciplined, focused and ready for the physical demands of the job,” said Dhillon.

Another deputy sheriff, Jashanpreet Gill, started working in Fort St. John in March 2025.
