The city’s communications manager, Ryan Harvey, advises motorists to avoid using 99th Avenue as a detour as it is a school area.

Residents should also slow down around working crews and follow any traffic signs and personnel.

The road was previously closed for milling and repaving work from June 10th to June 16th.

Harvey said the roadwork got extended due to last week’s heavy rainfall.

“[Construction crews] were able to finish milling earlier last week and then with the rain, paving got postponed until this week,” said Harvey.

“They were going to mill and then repave immediately and they weren’t able to, so the road reopened Wednesday last week and then paving started today.”

The closure is part of the 2025 Road Overlay program to maintain 25 city blocks in Fort St. John.

Pavement work on one of North Peace Regional Airport’s runways was also extended due to the rain.
