Flood watches and advisories for northeast after heavy rainfall

A flood watch is in place for the Beatton River and much of the Peace River region is under a high streamflow advisory after rainfall.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre has issued a flood watch for the Beatton River and advisories for some of northeast B.C. after two days of rain. (B.C. River Forecast Centre)

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Due to rainfall in the region, a flood watch has been issued for the Beatton River.

Issued by the B.C. River Forecast Centre at 12 p.m. on June 14th, a flood watch is in place for the Beatton River, and a high streamflow advisory for a large swathe of northeast B.C.

According to the centre, a high streamflow advisory means river levels are expected to be higher than normal or rise rapidly. This does not mean major flooding is expected, but low-lying areas could see some minor flooding.

“Stay clear of these fast-flowing rivers and potentially unstable riverbanks,” Emergency Info B.C. wrote in a June 14th social media post.

The advisory comes after Fort St. John and Dawson Creek issued heavy rainfall warnings for residents from June 12th to 14th.
