Evacuation alert for Alces River wildfire lifted by PRRD
The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has lifted one of its evacuation alerts amid significant rainfall in the Peace region.

GOODLOW, B.C. — The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has lifted one of its evacuation alerts amid significant rainfall in the Peace region.
According to an announcement, as of 6 p.m. on June 13th, evacuation alert one for the Alces River wildfire has been lifted.
The alert was put into effect on June 6th, two days after the fire was first discovered.

Doig River First Nation also began doing voluntary evacuations while the alert was in effect, and the Prince George Wildfire Centre issued an area restriction for the blaze.
It’s currently listed as ‘being held’ by the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), meaning it’s not expected to grow beyond its current boundaries. It’s burned 4,460 hectares so far.
Elsewhere in the region, evacuation orders and alerts remain in effect in the Kelly Lake region for the Kiskatinaw River wildfire.
However, the PRRD is now accepting requests for “temporary access passes” into the community so that essential items like water, fuel and propane can be delivered.

Providers needing access to the area are urged to contact the PRRD to request an access pass.
Requests must be submitted by 3 p.m. for next-day access, and no same-day approvals will be granted. Access will only be granted if BCWS confirms it’s safe to enter the community, and will only be allowed between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.
For evacuees, the City of Dawson Creek has notified residents that its emergency reception centre will be changing locations and hours through the weekend.
On Saturday, June 14th, the reception centre will be closed. The following day, it’ll be open at the Nawican Bergeron Youth & Cultural Centre on 17th Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., working at the PRRD’s resiliency centre.
Following the weekend, from Monday to Friday, the reception centre will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Hall.
