‘Gives us inspiration’: Fort St. John celebrates 10 years of Pride

The North Peace Pride Society has celebrated the 10th annual Pride Walk and Festival in Fort St. John on June 7th.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Clear skies greeted residents who gathered in Centennial Park for the annual walk and festival to celebrate Pride.

On June 7th, the North Peace Pride Society hosted its 10th annual Fort St. John Pride Walk and Festival at Centennial Park. 

Residents gathered to participate in the festival, carrying a long Pride flag during the walk around the city.

“I’m so proud that 10 years later this event is still taking place in our community,” Allaura Lovell, director of the North Peace Pride Society, said. 

“It gives us the inspiration to keep going and to make sure that Pride continues every year in Fort St. John.”

Following the walk, performers included high school student band Money Shift and amateur drag performances.

Fort St. John mayor Lilia Hansen also attended the event, giving speeches and mingling with attendees. 

“Ten years of Pride in the north peace is a powerful achievement, one that needs to be recognized, remembered and celebrated,” Hansen said. 

Jessica Beaumont, the vice president of the North Peace Pride Society, told Energeticcity.ca she would have liked to see more attendance but still considered the event a success.
