Road closure due to wildfire near Tumbler Ridge

TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. — A road closure is in effect near Tumbler Ridge due to a wildfire on Highway 52. 

According to a DriveBC update of May 15th at 8:07 a.m., Highway 52 is closed between Kelly Lake Road and Stone Creek Road for 17 kilometres. 

The wildfire, discovered on May 14th, is currently 50 hectares and has been deemed “out of control,” meaning it is spreading or is anticipated to spread beyond the current perimeter or control line.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, humans have been suspected of causing the wildfire. 

Firefighting personnel are on site, and additional resources have been requested. 

In addition, Alberta aviation resources and heavy equipment are supporting and responding to the blaze.
