47-hectare wildfire discovered near Komie Road

A new wildfire has been discovered in the Komie Road area on May 15th.

FORT NELSON, B.C. — A new wildfire has been discovered in the Fort Nelson zone.

The blaze, located in the Komie Road area, has burned 47 hectares so far. It’s also close to two other large fires in the region: one in Brandt Creek and another near Etcho Creek.

It’s unknown right now whether this blaze is completely new, or a reignited overwintering fire from the 2023 or 2024 season, as many others in the region are. It was reportedly discovered on May 15th.

It’s currently classified as ‘being held’ by the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), meaning it’s not expected to expand past its current boundaries. The listed cause of the blaze is a lightning strike.

No information regarding BCWS’s response efforts is available at this time. No area restrictions or evacuation alerts have been issued as a result of this fire.
