Wildfire near Alberta border grows to 130 hectares

A wildfire northeast of Fort Nelson and near the Alberta border has crossed the 100-hectare threshold.

FORT NELSON, B.C. — A wildfire northeast of Fort Nelson and near the Alberta border has crossed the 100-hectare threshold.

The fire, discovered on May 1st, is located in the Pesh Creek area, and has burned 133 hectares so far. Like many other wildfires in the area, this blaze is a holdover from the 2023 and 2024 fire season.

It’s currently classified as ‘out of control’ by the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS). The listed cause of the blaze is a lightning strike.

Like many other holdover wildfires in the area, according to the BCWS website, firefighters are focusing on monitoring the situation to see which blazes are becoming serious problems, so they can assign resources where they’re most needed.

As such, no resources have been assigned to the fire so far outside of the crews monitoring the blaze.

No area restrictions or evacuation alerts have been issued as a result of this fire. Energeticcity.ca will update this story with new information as it becomes available.
