Huskies’ Underhill heading to Marian University

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A Fort St. John Huskies’ assistant captain has made a commitment regarding his future and will be taking his talents south of the border.

Ashton Underhill is set to head to Wisconsin’s Marian University. The 21-year-old will suit up for the school’s Division II Sabres team in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) for the 2025-26 season.

This follows a stellar career with the Huskies that ended with the team’s victory in the Strike Group North West Junior Hockey League (NWJHL) finals against the La Crete Lumber Barons.

Marian University made the announcement in a Facebook post on Monday, April 21st.

Underhill will join a squad which also features former Huskies’ forward Cayden Frenette and goaltender Tyler McArthur.

“Congrats on a great junior career and we can’t wait to see you this fall Ashton!,” read the post, which adds he will don number 55.

In this year’s NWJHL playoffs, Underhill had six goals and 16 assists for 22 points as he helped the Huskies capture its fifth title in six years. 

He also had two goals during the Hockey Alberta Junior ‘B’ provincials as Fort St. John finished in fourth place.

Underhill, who also spent time in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL), leaves Fort St. John having also appeared in 101 regular-season games over three seasons.  He scored 57 goals and had 66 assists for 123 total points in those games.

Formed in the 1990s, the ACHA was established as a non-varsity option for collegiate players to continue to play hockey, separate from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

The Division II Sabres finished their 2024-25 regular season with a record of 20 wins and just four losses, which included a win at the Northern Collegiate Hockey League’s (NCHL) Hap Cup.
