Annual high school all-star basketball games to feature local talent

Players from Fort St. John, Dawson Creek and Chetwynd’s schools will be on display at the Northwestern Polytechnic Basketball All-Star Games in Grande Prairie on March 26th and 27th.

GRANDE PRAIRIE, AB. — Northwestern Polytechnic’s annual all-star basketball game showcasing talent across the Peace region will include several local players.

Rosters were released on Tuesday, March 24th for the game taking place later in the week.

The games website says it “spotlights local athletes who are nominated by their coaches and selected to compete” by the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves’ coaching staff.

Four games, featuring both boys and girls at junior and senior levels, will be contested starting on Thursday, March 26th.

Players from Bert Bowes Middle School, Chetwynd Secondary School, Dawson Creek Secondary South Peace Campus, Dr. Kearney Middle School and North Peace Secondary School are all featured.

In the junior boys’ contest, guard Jayden Erickson from Bert Bowes will don the colours of Team Blue, while his Bulldogs teammate, forward Diego Lascari, becomes his opposition on the roster of Team White.

The junior girls’ game will feature the talents of Dr. Kearney point guard Kyla Labadia and guard Vanessa Erickson from Bert Bowes, who will play for Team White.

The senior girls’ matchup features North Peace Secondary teammates Ella Knoppers and Charlotte Wilson, who recently competed in 4A provincials in Langley and will both play for Team Blue.

Meanwhile, Dawson Creek teammates Artessa Leguira and Kinsley Kishkan will play for Team White in the contest.

The senior boys’ matchup has North Peace Grizzly teammates, having also taken on 4A provincials, on opposite sides: forward Isaac Erikson will play for Team Blue, while Francis Wachira will play for Team White. 

Wachira will be joined by Chetwynd Secondary School point guard Jared Mito.

The girls’ junior game will take place on Thursday, March 26th starting at 6 p.m., while the junior boys’ matchup takes place starting at 8 p.m.

The senior games will be held on Friday, March 27th, with tip-off of the girls’ contest starting at 6 p.m.  and the boys’ at 8 p.m.
