FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Boundary Lake Water Station will remain closed until the summer.

A new update from the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) on the morning of March 25th says the facility will be able to reopen in “late June,” although it doesn’t include an exact date.

The water station closed indefinitely last August after an inspection revealed water quality concerns.

The cause of that poor water quality was eventually identified as an equipment failure, which led to an “oily contaminant” getting into the water.

In October, the PRRD provided an update saying more damage was discovered after initial repairs were completed.

As such, replacement parts were ordered and expected to arrive within five to six weeks.

The latest update now claims significant portions of the facility’s water treatment infrastructure need to be replaced.

“The replacement equipment is expected to arrive in June and the station will reopen after the new equipment has been delivered and installed,” it reads.

In the meantime, residents can use the Feye Spring Water Station at 1863 Imperial Avenue in Clayhurst, B.C., or find another water station in the region on the PRRD website.
