Third generating unit now operational at Site C
BC Hydro says it has hit a major milestone on its way towards having the Site C hydroelectric dam fully operational by this fall.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — BC Hydro says it has hit a major milestone on its way towards having Site C fully operational by this fall.
According to a February 24th press release from the utility, the third generating unit at the in-construction hydroelectric dam has been turned on.
This comes after the first two generating units were made operational in October and December of 2024. Each unit generates enough electricity to power roughly 80,000 homes.

“With the third generating unit in operation, the Site C project is now delivering more clean energy to B.C. homes, communities, business and industry,” says minister of energy and climate solutions Adrian Dix.
“I had the privilege of touring Site C recently,” he adds. “To see this incredible project up close is to fully appreciate its sheer scale and complexity, and I was grateful for the opportunity to thank, in person, many workers on site for their knowledge, skills and commitment as they continue to work hard to bring the project to completion later this year.”
There are three remaining power-generating units to bring online at Site C, and the utility says it’s still on track to have them all operational by the fall of 2025.
