North Peace Arena in the running to win $250K in 2025’s 'Hockeyville' contest

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fort St. John’s North Peace Arena has been nominated to compete against other community rinks across Canada for a chance to win $250,000 in upgrades.

The facility at 9805 96th Avenue will be among 331 choices for the 2025 Kraft Hockeyville competition.

The arena is home to the Fort St. John Figure Skating Club and the Fort St. John Senior Flyers and Fort St. John Huskies hockey teams.

Flyers president Paul Van Nostrand, who assisted in the 2004 AAA Peewee provincials hosted at North Peace Arena, says the announcement is “exciting”.

Van Nostrand says the arena opened in the early 1970s and has been the scene of “many moments” throughout its nearly six-decade history.

“It’s probably one of the most important hubs of winter activities in Fort St. John,” said Van Nostrand, adding the Flyers have already distributed the info on their social media accounts.

“Hopefully we can win and make some improvements to that wonderful old arena.”

The competition began in 2006 by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) with winners receiving cash toward arena upgrades and hosting a National Hockey League (NHL) pre-season game.

Points are scored by residents posting online testimonials about the arena, which earns the facility ten points, and pictures of the community enjoying the amenities, which get three points.

The deadline for testimonial submissions is March 2nd, and judges will announce the final four submissions on March 15th.

The winning arena will be announced on April 5th. Hockeyville is sponsored by KraftHeinz, the NHL and the NHL Players’ Association.
