Northern Lights Raceway announces 2025 schedule, WDRA Bracket Finals highlight season

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Northern Lights Raceway held their 2025 Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, January 7th at the Pomeroy Centre.

Finalizing dates at the quarter-mile track, located at 242 Road in Baldonnel and shoring up the board were on the agenda. 

The biggest news was last season’s vice-president and president have switched roles, as Colin Gessner will be in the secondary chair, with Suzanne Svisdahl taking the lead role.

While she admitted to Energeticcity.ca that there will be a learning curve, Svisdahl is excited about her new role.

“We will see how it goes,’ said Svisdahl. “It’ll be trial and error for sure.”

Svisdahl adds that Racheal Larson, Grace Skolos, Terry D’albertanson, Jason Gertz, Wade Banks, Kevin Noehring, and TJ Dohm will retain their roles. 

Dates for races were posted on Facebook on Wednesday morning, January 8th.

New this year will be the track hosting the World Drag Racing Alliance (WDRA) Northwest Summit Bracket finals on the weekend of September 6th and 7th, 2025.

Hosted in Prince George last year, the winners of that event will qualify for the WDRA World Finals, slated to take place in Montgomery, Alabama in October.

Svisdahl says teams from northern B.C., as well as Alberta and as far away as Saskatchewan, could descend on Fort St. John for the event.

“That’s where the ultimate goal is for many of these drivers,” said Svisdahl. “WDRA created a bracket for us.  So any WDRA member track has a chance to come up here and compete.”

One of the biggest obstacles was the lack of volunteers, which Svisdahl says the track is “always on the lookout” for.

Volunteers are needed for the burnout box and the ticket booth, where drivers will receive their time slip.

“My 13-year-old was a race starter last year just so we had someone in that spot,”  said Svisdahl. “Teenagers are welcome to come.  It’s how we fill our holes right now.”

“Everybody brings their kids and pitches in where it’s needed.”

Northern Lights Raceway’s 2025 schedule will kick off on May 24th and 25th, with racing dates in June, July and August before the finals in September.
