FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The City of Fort St. John council has approved the 2027-2030 annual remuneration for councillors elected to the next city council.

The approved report dictates that the annual base salary of a councillor be increased to 40 per cent of the mayor’s base salary.

The mayor’s salary will not be changing with this legislation, and will remain the same at $101,500. Therefore, city councillors will earn a base salary of $40,900 starting in 2027.

The report also allowed room for future inflation, which will be calculated by referencing the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Unless repealed or altered by future councils, starting in 2027, councillors will see annual remuneration increases of CPI plus 1 per cent, up to a maximum of 3 per cent. This means that if CPI is 8 per cent, councillors will only receive a raise of 3 per cent, as per the legislated cap approved by the current council.
