FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Staff members with the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation are calling the results of the first annual Summer Scrap Drive “impressive.”

According to a press release from the foundation, the fundraiser collected over 200 tonnes of scrap metal and raised $26,371.

PETRONAS was reportedly the top contributor to the fundraiser, recycling more than $7,400 worth of scrap metal and winning the commemorative “Bischoff Hat” trophy.

The drive, which concluded on September 20th, saw 11 companies participate and included an in-person collection event at the North Peace Arena on September 14th, co-hosted by the foundation, ABC Recycling, and the City of Fort St. John’s yard waste drop-off.

All proceeds were donated to the foundation to purchase new medical equipment for the hospital.

Fort St. John Hospital Foundation Executive Director Kelly Amboe says there wasn’t a specific piece of equipment her team planned to buy with the proceeds from the drive.

As such, she says the money will be used to buy various pieces of equipment the hospital has pledged to purchase this year, including a new blood product fridge, butterfly tables, and more.
